I love creating one-of-a-kind stylish costumes that work perfectly for me AND the event I’m attending.

I love sharing my love of costumes and willingness to wear them to non-costume events with other costume-loving friends. It’s a fabulous #costumelife! Wanna join?

I created these costume tools because I know that getting started with costuming and taking it to the next level can be tricky. You don’t want cheap canned stuff from Amazon but you don’t want the spendy gorgeous rentals either. This is the best of both worlds!

How did I get here?

I did not dress up in Halloween costumes as a child because my dad’s birthday was on Halloween and that was always reserved for nice family dinners. My first time trick-or-treating was 12th grade! I was a snowflake with a poster board and glitter costume I had made. I'm an artsy type so it came out pretty well.

Fast forward 20 years (with no costuming) and I was headed to my first Burning Man with no clue what to wear. A friend let me look in her costume closet and pull a few things out so I didn’t look like the newbie I was. And that got me hooked. I’ve built my collection and refined my style and tastes over years of going to white dinners, Santa pub crawls, wine walks, red dress runs, costume-themed campouts, fundraising galas, cruises and even costume parties!

I believe that anyone can create a unique, fabulous costume without spending a ton of money, or getting lost in a Pinterest hole, or sewing a hole in their finger or burning themselves with a hot glue gun.

Here are a few of my favorite things: dark chocolate with red wine, faux fur animal prints, sequins, dressing up in fun costumes with fun friends for parties, wine walks and campouts … and my kitties.

Can I just search Amazon for a Wonder Woman costume?

Of course you can! There's nothing difficult or unique about buying a canned costume. It's usually cheap stuff from China. How many other Wonder Woman costumes will be at your party? (There's nothing wrong with WW; I'm a huge fan btw!)
Or you can grab this Halloween Costume starter kit and be on your way to standing out from the crowd and parade around in a truly unique costume you can be proud of — and feel comfortable in.

Can't I find something good at a costume shop?

Yep, probably so. It won't be unique or inexpensive, and if you're renting, you won't get to keep it and reuse the pieces again and again. If you want to build a costume collection, you'll want to keep your masterpiece. The ideas this will help you generate are probably not available in costume shops anyway.

Is this appropriate for kids costumes?

Yes! The Costume Generator can yield thousands of options and plenty of them would be appropriate for kids. The Costume Planner has a generic male, female and child shape so you'll be able to print whichever pages you need. Kids are brilliantly creative and may come up with their own ideas that will knock your socks off. Be ready to support their creative ideas rather than squash them because you don't know how to pull it off.

How is this different from cosplay?

Cosplay usually refers to recreating a specific named character like a superhero or character from a book or movie. My approach can work for cosplay, but it's more geared toward general creatures, like a butterfly, mermaid, pirate etc.

I'm too old for this and don't feel comfortable wearing what I would want to wear.

Nonsense, no one is too old or too young to dress up! You're just out of the habit of doing it from when you were younger. I have friends from 30s to 70s who dress up and have a fabulous time doing it. I am early 50s and have been playing with costuming for 15 years with no end in sight. There are always modifications you can make to your costume choices so you feel "age appropriate."
